Practice Enrichment: Final

For my Dr Strange final, I created this using watercolours, scanning the image in and elongating the strokes of paint. I then over layed the image on top and used the blend mode screen to place them together. I then went over the image with a water colour brush to blend it into the background better, so it looked more fluid and flawless. I feel the white ink doesn't really add anything to the image, and would have looked better if I had added this aspect on the computer, rather than by pen. That being said, I feel the paint splatters add movement to the image and I like how strong it looks when surrounded by the white space. I think I should have explored typography for this, as I feel as though it's missing something, though I am unsure what. Overall, I am quite happy with this as I feel it truly reflects Dr Strange's character, taking into account his hiding in the background, but also incorporating the bright, vibrant colours and the surrealism.

For my Dr Hurt final, I created a double exposure and cut this up by hand using the guillotine. I feel this has kept the anonymity and secrecy I was hoping to create. I do feel I could have created a 3d image in this way by using foam boards underneath certain layers to give the image more dynamic and depth, but looking at the difference between the image before and after being cut up, I like the double exposure and feel it added the split personality aspect whilst leaving it unrecognizable. I think I brought focus to the secret, which was what I wanted.

After seeing these together, I am quite proud of my work in this module. I feel I really went all out with my skills and learnt quite a lot of new techniques. In the future, I want to experiment with more different medias: mainly inks, screenprinting, lino cutting, etc. I think this was truly great module to allow my creativity to shine, and grow -- and I want to continue to build my confidence in all the different areas I looked at. I feel since starting this course I have lost a lot of my hand drawn aspects and favoured (and tried to learn) computers and technology, and I want to revisit illustration and drawings over the coming summer, as a personal target, and begin building a portfolio.
